Sydney Metro has plans to progressively upgrade the 122-year-old Bankstown Line from 2020. The station will see new lifts, new entry points and level access between platforms and trains as part of the upgrade.

Currently, eight trains an hour  stop by Bankstown Station in the morning peak. When Sydney Metro services start in 2024, this will change to 15 trains an hour in the peak times.

The new Bankstown Station will deliver these features as part of the upgrade plan:

• Upgraded entrance on Bankstown City Plaza
• Platforms extended east to service Sydney Metro services
• Station future-proofed for potential underground platforms
• New station buildings with staff/passenger facilities
• At least 50 new bike parking spaces
• 13 kiss and ride spaces
• Bus stop and interchange area retained
• New canopy over the Sydney Trains platform

Sydney Metro also plans to contribute a new 'active transport corridor', which will see all stations in the Canterbury-Bankstown area having walking and cycling infrastructure as part of the upgrade work. The corridor will provide the first stages of a major east-west spine.

While maintenance occurs, a Temporary Transport Strategy has been devised to keep customers moving.
