Bankstown

Australia's most multicultural suburb

Bankstown is the multicultural hub of Sydney - with many small businesses and a thriving retail precinct, it is only a 30 minute drive to Sydney CBD and well serviced by public transport.

As one of they Key suburbs in the "Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Strategy", there is a planned approach to grow with infrastructure and development along the Sydenyham to Bankstown corridor. There are plans for new jobs over the next 20 years, which build on the 'Sydney Metro City and Southwest project'. The urban renewal strategy hopes to provide more than 35,400 new homes and will see to:

  • providing improved open spaces;
  • renewing town centres; and
  • providing better community services and facilities.

That is not to say that Bankstown is lacking in amenities today. Bankstown is home to two homemaker centres, a Centro Shopping centre, a new and improved library, an arts centre, diverse range of eateries, cultural shopping hubs, several schools, and open parks and fields.

Bankstown is popular with young families and those looking to establish a life in Sydney who have been priced out of the inner city suburbs. The area is generous in land size, though the recent trend has been to subdivide into duplexes.
